The Story

Facing the complexities of a custom Web3D engine and a fast-scaling engineering team, Infinite Reality turned to Augment Code to improve test coverage, speed prototyping, and upskill developers in working with AI agents. The result: faster delivery, more automation, and a clearer path to scaling quality.

The Challenge

Infinite Reality, now also operating as Napster 3D Studio, is building a first-of-its-kind SaaS platform for immersive, interactive 3D web experiences. The company’s custom game engine, built with Three.js, React, and TypeScript, integrates proprietary rendering technology and AI agents to convert flat websites into personalized 3D spaces.

“We’re at the intersection of gaming and web technologies—and nothing is built for what we’re doing,” said Griffin Rowell, Interim CTO. “Even onboarding engineers is a challenge because our stack is so niche.”

With over 150 engineers and a fast-moving roadmap, the team needed a way to:

  • Speed up development of boilerplate and test code
  • Prototype new ideas more efficiently
  • Support engineers working in a highly complex and unconventional codebase

Why Augment Code?

Initially, teams were experimenting with various tools informally. But earlier this year, Griffin initiated a formal evaluation, narrowing down to Gemini and Augment. After a team-led hackathon, the decision was clear. “There was no competition. The agent was a force multiplier. It became: can you build with Augment? The answer was yes.”

Purpose-Built Context Awareness

Unlike general-purpose AI models, Augment’s understanding of Napster’s unique codebase—especially the proprietary layer built on top of its open-source engine—was a key differentiator. “Other tools didn’t have the context or training data for what we’re doing. Augment did—and the results showed.”

Adoption Through Experimentation

Rather than mandate usage, the team prioritized learning and experimentation. Engineers began using Augment as a pair programmer, offloading testing, code reviews, and new project setup. “The most productive ICs—some of whom were initially skeptical—are now managing hundreds of agent calls a day,” said Griffin. “They’re essentially managing teams of remote agents.”

Built for Speed and Flexibility

Engineers used Augment not just for routine dev tasks but also for rapid prototyping. “I gave the agent a rough idea and a list of libraries, hit play, and it built the experiment. That would’ve taken hours, but I had results in minutes.”

Results and Benefits

  • Accelerated Test Coverage: Engineers are using Augment to rapidly improve automated test output—key to long-term code quality.
  • Faster Prototyping: Experiments that once required hours of setup are now possible in minutes.
  • AI Fluency and Upskilling: A new skill gap is emerging between engineers who effectively manage agents and those who don’t. Napster is proactively addressing it with documentation, internal tools, and knowledge sharing.
  • Adoption at Scale: Augment is now deployed across the core engineering team, with usage steadily rising and analytics integrated into sprint KPIs.

“Honestly, Augment is my favorite tool I’ve used. It’s added so much value—truly a force multiplier,” said Griffin.
