Most agent platforms provide building blocks and leave the customer or a Forward Deployed Engineer to assemble them. The hidden cost of powerful software
Agent platforms are easy to demo and hard to operationalize. A production agent needs context, tools, credentials, triggers, memory, a runtime, approval boundaries, and a clear job. Then it needs to fit the way a particular company already works.
This gap created the modern Forward Deployed Engineer. An FDE learns the customer, translates a desired outcome into a technical system, wires the product into local infrastructure, and keeps refining it until value appears.
That can be an effective way to launch a complex product. It is also a sign that the product cannot yet finish its own adoption. Every customer adds implementation work. Every new workflow enters a services queue. The knowledge required to succeed often sits with a small group of unusually capable people.
We believe the more scalable answer is software that understands its own capabilities, understands the craft required to apply them, and can make the necessary changes itself. We call this a self-forward-deploying platform.
Agent expertise, earned over years
Augment has been building agents and the context systems behind them for years. Our work reached the top published result for an open-source agent on SWE-bench Verified. Auggie later scored 51.80% on SWE-bench Pro, the highest result among the agents in our evaluation, outperforming Cursor and Claude Code with the same underlying model.
Those results matter because agent quality comes from far more than model choice. Context retrieval, tool design, planning, memory, verification, runtime behavior, and the structure of the loop all affect whether an agent finishes useful work. We have tested those decisions on benchmarks, in our own engineering organization, and across production customer workflows.

Advisor combines three kinds of intelligence
Cosmos Advisor is an expert that works on Cosmos. Anyone on the engineering team can describe an outcome in ordinary language, ask how the platform works, or bring a failed agent run for diagnosis. Advisor can answer, configure, deploy, inspect, and improve the system from the same conversation.
1. Complete product knowledge
Advisor works from the current Cosmos knowledgebase: integrations, environments, access controls, triggers, experts, memory, workers, and operating guidance. It knows the supported path through the product and can inspect the actual setup before recommending a change.
2. Proven knowledge of agent design
Advisor draws on reusable expert designs shaped by benchmark-leading agent research and years of production experience. They cover incident response, code review, ticket-to-PR, project delivery, feedback triage, and more. These designs encode hard-won decisions about prompts, tools, context, memory, delegation, event handling, and human checkpoints.
3. The ability to act
Advisor can use Cosmos to inspect connected systems, create or change experts, attach the right capabilities, configure the execution environment, set triggers, and analyze results. Its advice can become a running automation without a handoff to an implementation team.
Together, these qualities change the economics of adoption. A fully bespoke agent can be integrated into a company workflow in about ten minutes. The result can still be deeply specific to the organization. The setup time no longer has to be.

Consider incident response
Incident investigation shows why this matters. The generic workflow is familiar: respond to an alert, gather evidence, identify impact and ownership, develop a hypothesis, produce an RCA, and recommend a path forward.
The useful version is always company-specific. One organization investigates through Datadog, Sentry, GitHub, and Slack. Another relies on Grafana, Jira, GitLab, internal CLIs, and runbooks stored with the code. Escalation rules, service boundaries, approval policies, and the meaning of a healthy system vary too.
Advisor starts with a proven operational design, then adapts the expert to those realities. The expert can receive an alert, correlate live evidence with code and deployment history, consult earlier incidents, and post a structured analysis where the team already works. If code is the answer, it can hand the issue to a PR Author and remain involved as the work progresses.
In Augment's own on-call operation, the Incident Investigator reduced human investigation work by 81.3% and cut median time to first RCA from 30.1 minutes to 6.2 minutes. Those results came from a workflow built for our systems. Advisor makes the same operating pattern accessible without asking every company to recreate the machinery.
The company contributes the part only it knows: architecture, operating policy, customer context, and judgment. Cosmos contributes the platform and the accumulated craft of building reliable agents. Advisor joins the two while the conversation is still happening.
Enterprise controls are part of the setup
Cosmos was built enterprise-first. Object-Level Access Control is present throughout the platform to manage access and execution across experts, environments, secrets, and shared resources. Advisor can work with these controls while configuring an automation, so governance is part of adoption rather than a cleanup project after the pilot.

There will always be novel problems that benefit from close human collaboration. Those are exactly where skilled engineers should focus. Repeating a known integration or rebuilding a proven agent workflow should be handled by the product.

An engineering team can put a tailored automation against real work before hiring around it or building an orchestration layer from scratch.
