New, simpler pricing: Pay for what you control. Enjoy everything else.

TL;DR Starting today, we have new, simpler pricing. Customers are charged by the number of successful requests (User Messages) sent. As a thank you to our earliest paid customers, users previously on our $30 Developer plan can keep their rate for as long as they stay on the Developer plan.
A couple of weeks back, we announced Agent, and transparently, we wanted to work with the community on how to price it. This is why we announced Agent with temporary unlimited pricing.
The common feedback we heard was:
- We don't want to be charged for requests, tool calls, actions, etc., as we don't control the Agents and don't want to monitor their every move.
- We don't want to have to do the math of what a credit is worth depending on what we do, in which model. How does that translate back to my messages or my prompt? That accounting homework steals time we can spend shipping code.
- We use Augment because it works and gets out of our way. We don't have to worry about which model to use. The pricing should be the same.
With the help of our community and customers, we decided to settle on a more straightforward and fair metric for all our plans: User Messages. Augment cuts the math: one user message = one clear price.
🤔 What is a User Message?
We define a User Message as a message that the user sent to the Agent, in Instruct, or in Chat, that was successfully processed.
We chose User Messages as our usage measure to make things simple for our customers. Every interaction consumes a variety of tool calls, context windows, and token counts—details we believe should be our responsibility to optimize, not yours. That frees our customer up to focus on what matters: leveraging Augment to transform how you work.
Why these plans?
We looked at the different usage patterns of our users, and it's clear that some of you are huge power users, while others are still discovering the power of agents.
- The Community plan is the most generous free AI agent plan on the market right now.
- The Developer plan is for users who use Agent for ~1 hour per day at work. This is for software engineers still discovering the power of Agent.
- The Pro plan is for users who rely on Agent for most of their day-to-day work.
- The Max plan is for the power user who runs multiple Agents (IYKYK).
In case you hit your plan limit, you can always buy more messages (which remain available for 12 months after purchase) or upgrade instantly to the next plan, up to you.
What's next?
The world of AI is evolving rapidly and constantly changing. New models are changing the cost every week, and how users leverage agents to be more productive is also changing daily. We will continue to optimize our systems so we can deliver the best experience, highest code quality with the best context, at the best price.
Quick FAQ
Are user messages pooled? Yes. User messages are pooled at the team level. This means that 1 user on a team of 10 can use 90% of the team's messaging.
What is a user message? A user message is consumed when a user sends a command, prompt, or message to an IDE agent, an Instruction, a Remote Agent, or in a chat.
What is included in the trial? The trial is 14 days long. Trial users get the Developer Plan. They can use up to 600 user messages in 14 days. If they decide to buy at the end of the trial, their usage is reset.
What happens if the user runs out of user messages during the trial? They can continue to use the other unlimited features for the remainder of the period. If they want to use more Agent or Chat, they need to purchase a plan (or move to the community plan). This change is immediate.
Which plans are existing customers moving to? Existing Self-Serve Customers will be moved to the Dev Plan ($50 with 600 user messages) but will be charged $30/month. This price remains valid until they change their plans or cancel their account.
